Premium Event Services for the Fine & Performing Arts
Welcome, everyone!
My name is Tim Houston and I am the founder and director of Act One - Premium Event Services for the Fine and Performing Arts in Santa Barbara, California.
I have been your server in restaurants here in Santa Barbara for over 30 years, ‘performing’ at such amazing venues as Tutti's, Michael's Waterside Inn, Arigato Sushi, the Blue Agave and Louie's at the Upham Hotel. For the last four years now, I have been serving the concessions at the Granada Theater and for the Ensemble Theatre Company at the New Vic.
In my experience, I have found that there are no concessions/catering services that exclusively support the local arts community. To be sure, there are plenty of fine event services, caterers and bar rentals in the area who offer services for many different kinds of functions, but there is no one who focuses on the Santa Barbara Arts community as its mission.
We are currently in very positive and promising discussions with four of Santa Barbara's finest performing arts venues. They are basically just waiting for Act One to ‘go live’ in order that we may supply for their concession needs. This is very exciting and we are very grateful to them for their patience and for believing in our vision.
Other potential clients include the Granada Theater, the Center Stage Theater, the Music Academy of the West, the Santa Barbara County Arts Commission, the Santa Barbara Fund for the Arts, the Santa Barbara Downtown Organization and many more.
At Act One, we are committed to providing the best service possible as well as the healthiest and most sustainable products that food and beverage artisans have to offer. Our focus is primarily on local Central Coast producers, but as the need arises, we will expand our scope outside of our local area in order to provide the best products available. For more information, please visit our Dream Menu page.
For services outside of what Act One is able to provide, we will partner with other local service providers such as the Secret Ingredient, the Catering Connection, Michael's Catering and others.
Act One cares about local non-profit arts, well being and sustainability organizations. To that end, we will make our services available at a discount or as a donation for fundraising events for Art From Scrap, the Film Club of Santa Barbara City College, Explore Ecology, the Santa Barbara Mental Wellness Center, Casa Serena and others.
Act One also cares deeply about our team. We have a pool of amazing customer service professionals ready to bring their skills and professionalism to our clients and guests. Between us, we have over 90 years of hospitality and customer service experience.
In order to take care of our amazing staff to the best of our ability, Act One will start by paying for all Safe Serve certifications, now required by the State of California, but which other employers require staff to pay for out-of-pocket. At Act One, we do not believe that staff should have to pay for anything that is 'required' for them to enjoy their employment.
Currently, we are also able to offer complimentary tickets for all performances at the New Vic Theater thanks to the generosity of the Ensemble Theatre Company.
And, in order to foster the creativity of our team, Act One provides free web and Facebook space for any artistic endeavors our team mates want to share with the world.
As we grow, we look forward to offering even more perks and benefits for our crew.
Thank you for believing in our vision!
Best wishes,
Tim Houston,
Founder and Director
